Educational Programs at Phoenix CenterThe Phoenix Center Curriculum
As a New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE)-approved full day educational program for children with disabilities, the Phoenix Center's curriculum is based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (CCCS), and provides a wide range of special events and field trips to augment the academic curriculum. Behavior SupportsThe Phoenix Center's Behavior Management Team is extensively trained in Applied Behavior Analysis and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, and works closely with certified social workers, a school psychologist and a consulting psychiatrist, to develop uniform therapeutic interventions in support of each student's behavioral needs. Related ServicesThe Phoenix Center offers a full range of related services, including counseling and psychological services, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, health services, and an innovative program that helps relationships become the vehicle for learning interactions called the Bridge to Learning Program. Special Events and Field TripsField trips and other co-curricular events provide important opportunities for community-based learning and real-world problem-solving, create a sense of community among students, and provide opportunities to celebrate successes and achievements. Arts and Sports ProgramsPhoenix Center Physical Education and Art Programs follow the NJDOE Core Curriculum Content Standards. With a full size gymnasium on campus, aquatics program, basketball, bowling, pep squad and therapeutic riding programs, our students have plenty of opportunities for exercise and physical play. Art and music education, percussion ensemble, senior chorus, dance troupe and drama club provide creative learning experiences for all students.
